Do Your Great Work

Why not go out on a limb? That's where the fruit is...

Sometimes you have to go your own way

Mariette Edwards

That was Mariette's story. She was a 20-year veteran of the corporate world when she went out on a limb in search of her own great work.

What started as a bold and daring move led to an 8-year journey filled with amazing experiences. But clarity about what her great work might be remained just beyond her reach--until the day she realized she had been doing her great work the whole time!

How it happened

A friend had just lost her job. Scared and angry, she was surprised when Mariette told her that she had a lot of power in that situation. Her friend just had to use it.

They worked out the details as Mariette prepared her for the conversation of a lifetime with her soon-to-be former employer.

The scheduled meeting came and went but Mariette heard nothing. Curiostiy finally overcoming patience, she called to check in on her friend's results. "Well?", Mariette remembers asking, "How did it go?"

"I decided to ask for more than we rehearsed and...I got it! My boss was so happy to help me, he gave me a hug and wished me good luck. You are really good at this. You should be a coach."
